What is Patient Centered Diagnosis and Treatment and what does it mean for my experience at Bloomington Sports and Wellness?
-
At Bloomington Sports and Wellness, we believe often times medical practitioners squeeze patients into a diagnosis that fits the tools, knowledge and training that the practitioner has. This often means that patients get treatments or advice that is unnecessary, inaccurate, ineffective or all three. At BSW we take special care to actively ask, listen and observe the patient to understand all the elements of their pain or dysfunction. We then educate the patient on the nature of their dysfunction or pain, how, 1. We can treat them, 2. They can treat themselves and/or 3. Refer them to a more appropriate practitioner for treatment or further testing.

Why Manual Medicine?
-
If you are a chiropractor, why use the term manual medicine?
-
At Bloomington Sports and Wellness, we see the body a group of systems working together to produce the function that a person demands every day. Keeping the systems approach in mind, we have many tools that address muscles, tendons, ligaments, the nervous system as well as the spinal and extremity joints. We also have a network of health professionals that address systems of the body that we do not. Using the term chiropractic alone does not accurately reflect the philosophy and services of Bloomington Sports and Wellness.

What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent?
-
Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a modality that uses a specially made micro-current device that allows the practioner to change the frequency of the electrical impulses on two separate channels going to the patient. The ability to change frequencies allows the practitioner to target and treat tissues and conditions with a specificity previously thought un-obtainable. Please visit www.frequencyspecific.com for more information on FSM.

What is Functional Rehabilitation?
-
Functional Rehabilitation has its roots in the patient centered approach of diagnosis and treatment. A Functional Rehabilitation practitioner doesn’t only look at the joint or area of pain, they look at areas above and below the problem to see what kind of bio-mechanical stress may be causing or perpetuating the injury.
- Questions about Chiropractic manipulation
-
Manipulation/Adjusting of the spinal and extremity joints is surrounded by many mis-conceptions. Manipulation has an important role in our treatment and is done with specific goals in mind. Hopefully, the following will answer your questions about manipulation at Bloomington Sport and Wellness.
- Why do you adjust?
-
There are two main goal for manipulation in our office. 1. To restore normal muscle tone and joint mechanics to the muscles surrounding a spinal or extremity joint. 2. To release a physical adhesion in the joint or along the joint surfaces.
-
How does an adjustment restore normal muscle tone and mechanics to spinal and extremity joints?
-
The nervous system is constantly monitoring the stability and safety of all of the joints is the body. If the body perceives instability or a threat if injury to a joint, the brain will change the tone of the muscle surrounding the at risk joint. This “change of program” is often felt as stiff and painful joints. Manipulation of the joints resets the nervous system pattern around the joint in question in the same way to hitting control-alt-delete on a computer rests a computer that has locked up. Resetting the nervous system allows the body’s own healing process to proceed and accept other therapies with less interference.
-
How do you adjust?
-
At Bloomington Sports and Wellness, we employ many types of joint manipulation. We perform traditional manual manipulation, drop table adjustments and instrument assisted adjusting. Our instrument assisted adjusting is performed with the Arthro-stim adjustor. The arthrostim achieves maximum input to the nervous system without the popping and cracking that some patients may not prefer.
-
Do I have to be adjusted?
-
Patients have various previous experiences with joint manipulation. If you have a strong feeling towards a particular style of adjustment or if you would rather not be adjusted at all, please note it on your intake forms or inform the doctor.
